CASTRIES, St Lucia, October 29, 2009 - American budget carrier, JetBlue Airways, has expanded its Caribbean presence with a new service to St Lucia.
Nonstop service to St Lucia's Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) from the JetBlue's home at New York's John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) began this week. The airline will serve the island with nonstop flights every Monday, Thursday and Sunday, operated by its 150-seat Airbus A320 aircraft.
"We remain focused on providing service to more Caribbean destinations, along with affordable prices, convenient schedules and an unrivaled customer experience to the places our customers tell us they want to go," said senior vice president of marketing and commercial strategy for JetBlue Airways, Marty St George.
St Lucia's Tourism Minister Senator Allen Chastanet welcomed the airline, saying that the service improves the island's accessibility to nationals and visitors, and for goods and services between our country and the global marketplace.
"JetBlue's commitment to excellence is commendable and with our new and recently renovated tourism product and attractions, we believe this winning partnership will be of benefit to visitors and Saint Lucians alike," he said.
Minister of Commerce, Industry and Consumer Affairs, Senator Tessa Mangal, said JetBlue's flight into the St Lucia market would augur well for the business sector in particular.
"(It) will provide persons with the opportunity to come over here to do business with their counterparts, and be able to get in and out within a short space of time, which is important for business people who just need to get out for a couple of days," she said.
Meantime, Jamaica is also welcoming additional airlift from the US carrier which currently flies daily to Montego Bay from JFK.
JetBlue will begin daily service from New York's JFK airport to Kingston tomorrow.
Additional airlift for Jamaica from North America and Europe this winter season will come from British Airways.
It introduces service from London Gatwick to Montego Bay starting today and operating non-stop every Thursday and Saturday.
This new service brings to five, the number of flights per week by that airline into Jamaica. Currently British Airways operates flights into Kingston on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
