JLP posts advertisements on YouTube following allegations that it could not broadcast on one local TV station
NEW YORK, USA, July 23, 2007 - The opposition Jamaican Labor Party is leaving no stones unturned in getting its message across to the electorate and supporters. JLP organizers have gone Web savvy this election, using the power of YouTube to get their ad messages across.

With just over a month until Jamaicans go to the poll to elect a new government, the JLP has posted more than a dozen of its television commercials on the famous web site and several thousand people are already watching. By contrast, none were found for the ruling Peoples National Party.

The ads, which were posted from as early as three weeks ago, range from hilarious to the more direct political attack on the PNP and its leader, Portia Simpson Miller. Cleverly edited, the ads largely poke fun at the new PM's statement: 'Nah Changing No Course.' One also features the JLP-led Bruce Golding, to the tune, 'Change is coming baby, change is coming now.' Golding

also insists that "Jamaica has to change course... and I am the driver." Golding's relatives are also part of the ad campaign.

Most are paid for by G2K2 - Generation 2000 and the JLP. The YouTube ads come amidst controversy in Jamaica over ads in various media houses, with some politicians screaming bias in some quarters while noted radio station owner, Nationwide's Cliff Hughes, accused the ruling PNP of refraining from advertising on his medium after a poll showed the party is in trouble ahead of the election.

The JLP, led by Golding, will face-off with the Simpson Miller-led PNP on August 27th. YouTube has become the largest video website fueled by user generation content globally. So huge infact that media giant, CNN has teamed up with the Google-owned entity to present the CNN/YouTube presidential debate, where citizen journalists will get a chance to become political analysts.
