GEORGETOWN, Guyana, April 11, 2008 - Carolyn Rodrigues has been chosen to replace former Minister of Foreign Affairs Rudy Insanally who retired last month, becoming the first woman in the country's history to hold that post.

The former Minister of Amerindian Affairs, who was sworn in Thursday, said her first move will be to determine the priority areas for her ministry.

She also indicated that matters including the Guyana-Barbados immigration issue will be discussed with her staff before government decides on an appropriate response.

The Minister said she would also be looking at territorial issues and working improving the image of Guyana.

She served as Minister of Amerindian Affairs since 2001 and has been replaced by Pauline Sukhai who was also sworn in on Thursday.

Sukhai said she plans to further the development made under her predecessor and complete work in the area of land titling.
