HAMILTON, Bermuda, September 22, 2008 - Belize and the Canadian province of Nova Scotia have signed a Letter of Intent paving the way for more formalised business and cultural ties between the two jurisdictions.

The document will be followed up by an official Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in the coming months, explained Bermuda's Premier Ewart Brown.

"We have almost 2,000 people from Canada working and living in Bermuda and we have as many as 300 Bermudian university students here in Nova Scotia at any given time. Plus there is clearly room to grow our relationship in areas like financial services, entrepreneurship and tourism," he said at the signing in Halifax, Canada. "A Memorandum of Understanding will help all involved focus their attention on the potential before us."

Premier Rodney MacDonald of Nova Scotia said the MOU will cement the many partnerships that exist between the two communities and pave the way for future opportunities.

"We are strengthening a partnership and building on an important relationship," he said.

The Letter of Intent signed by the two officials indicated that Bermuda and Nova Scotia would work towards a formal business and cultural relationship, and pursue the MOU in order to improve prospects for future growth and cooperation.
