ROSEAU, Dominica, November 17, 2008 - LIAT has confirmed that the passenger who died on board one of their flights was Managing Director of the Dominica Electricity Services Limited (DOMLEC), Joel Huggins.

Mr Huggins was travelling on LI851 from Dominica to his native St Vincent, to visit friends and family last Friday afternoon, when a request was made for emergency assistance for him.

However, by the time the plane landed at the ET Joshua Airport in St Vincent where emergency services were waiting, the DOMLEC official had already passed away. He was pronounced dead by a local doctor.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to Mr Huggins' sudden death.

Meantime, LIAT has extended its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the passenger.

Dominica's Energy Minister Charles Savarin, in a message of condolence, remembered Mr Huggins for his "quiet and calm demeanour, but clear decisiveness of action in the various exchanges and dealings between his firm and the Ministry of Public Utilities, Energy and Ports on issues relating to the electricity sector".
