ST GEORGE'S, Grenada, November 28, 2008 - Grenada has reaffirmed its commitment to a relationship with Cuba, as the two countries reached an agreement to continue cooperation in the fields of healthcare, education, agriculture, sports and culture.
"The government and people of Grenada will continue to render their support to Cuba at the United Nations and other international fora; we will continue to call for the ending of the harsh and unjust economic and financial embargo; and will continue to work towards ensuring that the relations between Grenada and the Republic of Cuba are strengthened in the future," Prime Minister Tillman Thomas said.
He was speaking at the end of this week's 11th Session of the Grenada-Cuba joint commission, where an agreement was reached allowing Grenadians continued opportunity to study in Cuban universities in traditional areas such as Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Medicine, Economics and Architecture among others.
"Such a move augurs well to keeping Grenada on target towards the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals and is in keeping with the government's policy of raising the general standard of education by ensuring that education is accessible to all Grenadians," said Mr Thomas.
The Prime Minister added that Grenadians will also continue to benefit from the presence and expertise of Cuban nurses and doctors on the island.
