NEW YORK, USA, August 22, 2007 - Jazz singer and song writer, Jon Lucien, of songs like 'I Am Now" fame, has died.
The Tortola-born Lucien died over the weekend of respiratory failure and other complications from a scheduled surgery in a Florida hospital, according to a statement on his website. He was 65.
Lucien may be remembered for his melding of jazz, R and B, Caribbean rhythms and Brazilian music that was marketed as the twin formats of "quiet storm" and "smooth jazz." In 1970 he released his first recording in the United States, "I Am Now" on the RCA label. This was followed by 17 more albums under various labels.
Lucien is survived by his wife Delesa, two sons, one daughter, one step-son, two grand-children, three brothers and two sisters.
Memorial plans will be announced soon. A music book of Lucien's songs and lyrics is set to be published in the near future while a recently completed spiritual CD, "Wayfarer," will be released soon and available through his web site. (Hardbeatnews.com)
