LONDON, England, March 14, 2007 - FIFA vice-president, Trinidad's Jack Warner, is brushing aside reports that his son Daryan Warner has reportedly been slapped with almost $1 million in fines for scalping tickets for last year's World Cup soccer matches.
Warner's denial to the Trinidad Guardian comes as The London Daily Mail Monday reported that secret fines were levied against the younger Warner of Simpaul Travel. He is reportedly being asked to pay the money to the charity, SOS Children's Villages.
The agency has also been reportedly been banned from dealing in future tickets to FIFA events, the paper said. The deadline for full payment of US$992,652 is reportedly March 22, the next meeting of FIFA's executive.
The Mail broke the story last September, claiming that 5,400 tickets allotted to Warner were diverted to Simpaul Travel and sold at huge mark-ups to tour operators in England, Japan and Mexico. Additionally, 1,700 tickets reportedly allocated to the Trinidad World Cup team, were diverted to Simpaul.
Daryan also allegedly collected hundreds more tickets from the FIFA office in Berlin and passed them to "touts" to sell at a profit.
