ST JOHN'S, Antigua, October 10, 2008 - The Stanford Super Series will proceed as planned, following a deal brokered between Sir Allen Stanford and Digicel.
There were doubts that the tournament would come off after the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) ruled in favour of Digicel, that the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) had entered into an agreement with Sir Allen that compromised its rights as principal sponsors of West Indies cricket.
But officials of the WICB, Digicel and Stanford 20/20 said they had subsequently held a series of productive discussions and reached an agreement which assures the future of the Stanford Super Series and the Stanford 20/20 for 20 - a US$20 million match between the Stanford Superstars and England.
"I am pleased with both parties' solution oriented approach and most importantly that this matter has been finally resolved," Sir Allen said. "We look forward to welcoming fans from around the world to the Stanford Cricket Ground to enjoy a fantastic week of cricket." The Stanford Superstars squad is currently in training in Antigua and will continue their preparation uninterrupted leading into the Stanford Super Series, which stars on October 25 and culminates with the Stanford 20/20 for 20 on November 1.
