Australia Gives Aid To Grenada

Hardbeatnews, ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, Tues. Aug. 23, 2005: Grenada has secured another EC$600,000 or over $200,000 Australian dollars in aid from the Aussie government to assist with house building and repair caused by Hurricanes Ivan and Emily.

The Grenada government made the disclosure yesterday, stating that the increased assistance comes after a meeting in Washington last month between its Prime Minister, Keith Mitchell, and Australian leader John Howard.

Mitchell has stressed the need for more aid, stating that thousands of homes across Grenada were battered by Ivan and the majority of home owners were uninsured and government has had to intervene in a significant way to bring direct assistance to affected persons. –
