Bermuda government, hotels strategize amidst global downturn

HAMILTON. Bermuda, January 29, 2009 – The Bermuda government and hotel owners in the country are partnering on new strategies to weather the current global economic climate.

Premier Dr Ewart Brown, who is also Minister or Tourism and Transport, and Dr James King, Chairman of the Hotel Owners Committee, co-chaired a meeting at the Cabinet Office this week to begin talks on new cooperative strategies for the Bermuda hospitality industry in the face of difficult economic conditions around the world.

“Clearly the best way forward in these economically difficult times is for us to pool our resources and work as a cohesive unit for the benefit of this nationally important industry. We expect a solid plan in that regard to be prepared in the immediate future,” they said after the meeting.

Small committee groups, from both government and the hotel sector, are being formed to work out specific new strategies.

Those proposals will then be taken back to the full group for amendments, if necessary, and ultimately ratification.
