Gold Rush: Small Miners Helping Guyana Surpass Production Goals

Small gold miners helping country to reach target of 600,000 ounces this year.

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Monday November 7, 2016 – Guyana’s gold production is set to surpass 600,000 ounces – that’s 50,000 more than the initial target.

And Minister of Natural Resources, Raphael Trotman says most of that production is being driven by the efforts of small miners.

Gold production has increased from 385,000 ounces in 2014, to 456,000 ounces last year. A total of 545,742 ounces of gold had been declared up to the end of October, just shy of the 550,000 target.

“In this year, we will take it to over 600,000. That is our promise,” Trotman said.

“That target will be met by the average small man and woman involved in mining and supplemented by the larger companies and we are grateful to them,” he added

The remainder of the production thus far has been contributed by two of the large gold companies, Guyana Gold Fields and Troy Mining Resources. The amount produced by the two was reported to be 125,065.32 ounces and 58,750.7 ounces respectively.
