Minister of Tourism Cathy Hughes presents a book on the Rupununi to Captain of the Minerva, Neil Broomhall.

 

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Saturday December 19, 2015 – Minister of Tourism Catherine Hughes says government is pursuing advertising Guyana in cruise line magazines to show off the South American nation as an appealing tourism destination.

She also disclosed that contact has already been made with several cruise lines to secure Guyana a spot on their itineraries.

Hughes said once the 2016 Budget allocation for the tourism sector is finalized, funds will be set aside for an international marketing programme.

The  package will promote Guyana’s tourism potential by showcasing its wildlife, traditional food and culture.

The minister made the disclosure as Swan Hellenic’s Minerva docked in Georgetown yesterday, bringing 181 passengers.

Minerva last visited Guyana in March 2014 for three days.
