LITTLE HALL’S POND CAY, Bahamas, Thursday February 12, 2015 – Award-winning American actor Johnny Depp and his new bride Amber Heard were reportedly the happiest couple under the sun on Saturday when they exchanged vows for the second time on a beach named after Heard on Depp’s private island in the Bahamas.
The newlyweds, who met in 2011 on the set of “The Rum Diary,” celebrated their engagement the following year, going on to wed in a small civil ceremony at their home in Los Angeles last week.
The Bahamas wedding took place in the idyllic oceanfront setting of Little Hall’s Pond Cay, the 45-acre island Depp bought for £2.3million 11 years ago. The nuptials were reportedly the high point of a “wedding weekend” which the couple had planned to share their joy with family and close friends.
The 28-year-old bride wore a flowing white dress designed by Stella McCartney as she and the 51-year-old “Pirates of the Caribbean” star sailed smoothly into married life.
The gathering of about 50 persons on Amber Beach, which was named during Heard’s first visit, was intended to be “moving but only semi-formal,” according to one guest, who said: “Amber did her own hair and make-up and Johnny was as laid-back as usual.
“They wanted to do it all again on the beach and then party for the weekend with friends because they love the island and want it to be a continuing part of their lives together,” the source explained.
Wedding guests included Lily-Rose, 15, and Jack, 12, Depp’s children from his 14-year relationship with French star Vanessa Paradis; close members of Heard’s family, and English actor Paul Bettany, Depp’s friend and co-star in the movie “Mortdecai.”
The celebration was said to have been planned “pretty quickly” to fit into the couple’s hectic acting schedules.
Depp is flying to Australia imminently to begin shooting “Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” the fifth film in Disney’s multi-billion dollar franchise in which he reprises his role as Captain Jack Sparrow.
According to a friend of the newlyweds: “Amber will fly out to join him later, so there will be an opportunity for them to have a honeymoon of sorts during shooting breaks.
“But it will be a day here and a day there, which is why this weekend, beginning married life in a place they love with their closest family and friends, was so important to them.”
It is the second marriage for former musician Depp, who was married for 18 months between 1983 and 1985 to makeup artist Lori Anne Allison, the sister of a fellow member of his band Rock City Angels.
During his acting career, he has been engaged to fellow stars Jennifer Grey, Sherilyn Fenn and Winona Ryder before the much publicised four-year romance with British supermodel Kate Moss. His longest relationship was with Vanessa Paradis, from whom he split in 2012 after 14 years and two children.
Last year, Depp told NBC’s Today show that Heard was “a Southern belle and sweet as can be, and very good for me.”
Heard, whose recent films include the thriller “London Fields,” made headlines when she came out as bisexual in 2010.
She has previously dated female photographer Tasya van Ree, saying at a gay event in 2010: “I don’t label myself one way or another. I have had successful relationships with men and now a woman. I love who I love. It’s the person who matters.”
