BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Tuesday January 8, 2019 – Award-winning Hollywood actress Sigourney Weaver will receive an award at the third annual Barbados Independent Film Festival (BIFF) this weekend.
The ‘Cinema Under the Stars’ tribute to the American actress at the awards on Saturday will feature the presentation of the Founders Award as an Icon in the Performing Arts to her, and a screening of her personally selected film, A Map of the World.
A conversation and reception with Weaver will follow.

No one better represents these themes than Ms Weaver, who by her exceptional range of talent, unforgettable roles and trailblazing career continues to break down barriers for generations of smart, leading female actors to follow,” a BIFF statement said.
“Ms Weaver’s thriving career continues to inspire us all as she puts out one brilliant performance after another. She is a true and important icon of our time.”
Weaver’s career has spanned decades, encompassing several of the highest grossing films of all time such as Avatar, the Aliens films, Ghostbusters; as well as multiple prestigious awards and critically acclaimed successes.
