NEW YORK, United States, Wednesday March 26, 2014 – Having already bagged multiple prestigious music awards, Barbados’ pop princess Rihanna is set to add another jewel to her crown with the news that she has been selected as the recipient of the 2014 CFDA Fashion Icon Award.

In a statement announcing the award, CFDA CEO Steven Kolb said: “We are proud to present Rihanna with the CFDA Fashion Icon Award for her impact on the industry as fashion’s most exciting ambassador in recent memory.”

The Diamonds girl, who follows style sensations Kate Moss and Lady Gaga in winning the award, will be presented with the honour at Lincoln Center in New York City on June 2.

The Stay singer has consolidated her position as a fashion force over the last 12 months and is currently the star of Balmain’s spring 2014 campaign.

She has also become a friend of fashion mogul Karl Lagerfeld, who flew her to Paris and Dallas to sit front-row at two of Chanel’s recent runway shows.

The 26-year-old’s unique style, primarily created by costume designer Adam Selman and stylist Mel Ottenberg, is equal parts streetwear and high-fashion, mixing cutting-edge T-shirts and sneakers with haute couture items.

She has turned heads at a Lakers game wearing a tank top by London-based label KTZ, which she teamed with sweatpants, white stilettos and a dog collar necklace.

The Talk That Talk girl’s inimitable style has included everything from high-fashion labels including Chanel and Alexander Wang to green lipstick and baggy menswear.

“When I am putting looks together, I dare myself to make something work,” she told Vogue in 2011.

“I always look for the most interesting silhouette or something that’s a little off, but I have to figure it out. I have to make it me. I think that’s the thrill in fashion.”
