NASSAU, Bahamas, Friday March 28, 2014 – Award-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay hitmaker Chris Martin pulled an artful dodge before announcing, via a statement posted on Paltrow’s lifestyle site Goop, that they had separated after a decade of marriage.
No doubt anticipating the media feeding frenzy over their split, the pair escaped to the Bahamas with daughter Apple, 9, and son Moses, 7, prior to the Tuesday March 25 revelation.
The “uncouple” were spotted having dinner on Eleuthra Island Tuesday evening, just hours after Paltrow’s Goop post spilled the beans and made “conscious uncoupling” the latest buzz term.
“It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate,” they said in Tuesday’s statement. “We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate.”
“We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been,” the statement continued, noting that they are “parents first and foremost” to Apple and Moses.
“We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and co-parent, we will be able to continue in the same manner.”
Married to the 37-year-old Coldplay singer since 2003, Paltrow, 41, often spoke of the ups and downs in her marriage. She always maintained, however, that the kids came first for both of them.
“We are committed co-parents, we make all the decisions together, and lean on each other for support,” she told The Mail’s You magazine last March.
“[Chris] is so good to the children and to know that you had kids with such a good man is a real weight off you,” she added. “Regardless of what happens in our marriage, I chose the best father.”
Meanwhile, Paltrow and Martin have rented an upscale home on Eleuthra Island, a property that typically leases for US$5,000 to US$6,000 per week, according to an E! News report.
“They are enjoying their getaway together,” the report continued. “They are out on the beach with the kids having fun. They are having a family vacation.”
“The island is a place where you go not to be seen. People come to the island to really get away. It is a very private island and there is nothing commercial here. It’s a lot of land without a lot of people living here,” a resident told E!
The Cove Eleuthra Resort and Spa nearby is where Justin Bieber spent his 20th birthday earlier this month, and Mariah Carey has a home there as well, sources say.
As to the future, Paltrow is reportedly taking a break from acting to focus on family, having just wrapped her latest film Mortdecai, shot in London and co-starring Johnny Depp. Click here to receive free news bulletins via email from Caribbean360. (View sample)
