Guyana seeks Chinese investment

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, October 23, 2008 – Guyana is lobbying to get Chinese businessmen to invest in that Caribbean country.

Following on the heels of President Bharrat Jagdeo’s recent visit to China to meet with high level officials, Charge d’Affaires of the Guyana Embassy in Beijing, Choo An Yin has sought to encourage Chinese companies in Tianjin city to visit Guyana and explore investment opportunities there.

Speaking at a seminar held under the theme ‘Road to the Caribbean’, she highlighted the investment environment in Guyana and the various opportunities available for businessmen from the city.

Tianjin City is one of four cities in China and was the venue for the recently-concluded World Economic Forum’s Meeting of Champions, which was attended by President Jagdeo.

It falls under the direct administration of the Central Chinese government and is one of the most prosperous business areas. It is also a distribution centre for goods and materials in North China and is rich in petroleum, natural gas and sea salt along the coastal area.
