KINGSTON, Jamaica, Thursday May 26, 2011 – Prime Minister Bruce Golding has assumed responsibility for the Ministry of Energy and Mining, a day after James Robertson resigned from the position.

A statement issued yesterday by the Office of the Prime Minister said Laurie Broderick, the Minister of State in the Energy and Mining Ministry, will also assist Golding in the day-to-day running of the ministry.

The statement also gave an indication that a Cabinet reshuffle may be in the works.

It said the Prime Minister would take up Robertson’s responsibilities “pending the review of portfolio responsibilities within the Cabinet”.

Robertson resigned on Tuesday after confirming earlier newspaper reports that his and his wife’s US visas had been revoked.

He said no reasons were given for the decision and he was seeking, through lawyers in the US, to query it.

Media reports surfaced yesterday that he and his wife had been invited by the US Embassy in Kingston to reapply for their visas.
