GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Thursday May 26, 2011 – The probe into allegations of
misappropriation of funds and other fraudulent accounting practices at
CARICOM’s Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (IMPACS) is now
complete and it’s now left to the authorities to decide what action, if any,
will be taken.
The investigation, which preceded a comprehensive audit which is to be
undertaken at IMPACS, had been ordered by the Bureau of the CARICOM Ministerial
Council for National Security and Law Enforcement (CONSLE).
The Bureau, presided over by CONSLE Chairman and Minister of National Security
in Antigua and BarbudaDr Errol Cort, met yesterday via video conference to
consider the report of the preliminary investigation and its recommendations.
The recommendations have been forwarded to the full Ministerial body and will be
presented to a meeting of CONSLE next Tuesday, according to a statement from
CARICOM.
The results of the probe are expected to form the basis for the terms of
reference for the team chosen to carry out the independent audit at the agency.
IMPACS, which was established in 2006 through an Inter Governmental Agreement
among CARICOM Member States, reports to the CONSLE.
