Hardbeatnews, KINGSTON, Jamaica, Fri. Oct. 14, 2005: Jamaica Olympic Association
boss Mike Fennell will be one of some 157 outstanding people to be presented
with National Honors and Awards on National Heroes Day, October 17.
The awards will be presented in various categories on the lawns of King's House,
beginning at 9 a.m. in various categories including the Order of Jamaica; Order
of Distinction (in the rank of Commander [CD] and Officer [OD]); the Medal of
Honor for Meritorious Service; and the Badges of Honor for Meritorious and Long
and Faithful Service.
Fennell will be one of four receiving the Order of Jamaica for outstanding
contribution for his years of service in the field of sports.
Another 22 nationals will be conferred with the Order of Distinction, in the
rank of Commander while 47 persons will receive the Order of Distinction in the
rank of Officer.
Among the latter class is Kingsley 'Ibo' Cooper, who will be awarded for his
contribution to the development of Jamaican music.
The Badge of Honor for Meritorious Service will be conferred on 12 recipients
for their contribution to Community Service and Development, Education, Nursing,
Mental Health Care and Public Service.
While twelve other Jamaicans will receive the Badge of Honor for Long and
Faithful Service. Meanwhile, 60 members of the uniformed service will receive
the Medal of Honor for Meritorious Service.
This will include four Officers from the Jamaica Defense Force, 32 from the
Jamaica Constabulary Force, three from the Island Special Constabulary Force,
six from the Department of Correctional Service and 15 from the Jamaica Fire
