He was reportedly taken to the Canape Vert hospital in the capital on Wednesday night and is expected to undergo several tests. The details of the 59-year-old Duvalier’s condition have not been released but the Miami Herald newspaper quoted family friend Enzo Alcindor, who was at the hospital, as saying that he did not suffer a stroke or heart attack. Duvalier, who made a surprise return to Haiti in January after 25 years in exile in France, is under police guard at the hospital as he has been at home. He’s been monitored by police since being charged with corruption, misappropriation of funds and illicit association during the 1971 to 1986 period he was the country’s president.
