Haitian president on three-day visit to Cuba

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti, Wednesday November 16, 2011 - President Michel Martelly
is on a three-day official visit to Cuba, his first since he took office in May.
In a brief statement after his arrival President Martelly described Cuba as a
"brother country" and said that it is a "pleasure" and an "honor" to be there.
He is due to hold talks with his Cuban counterpart Raul Castro.
Prior to his arrival, an aircraft carrying 19 Haitian government officials was
forced to make an emergency landing in the central Cuban city of Camaguey. No
one was injured.
Damian Merlo, spokesman for the President Martelly said the aircraft landed as
an emergency precaution after a problem developed with its air conditioning
system.
This is the second such aviation incident to affect Haitian officials in less
than a week.
In a prior incident, a helicopter carrying Prime Minister Garry Conille, and
other senior government officials had to make an emergency landing in a field of
crops in the capital due to poor weather conditions.
