The two were arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning when the car Morton was driving was stopped by patrolling police and the drugs found. According to police, officers on mobile patrol in Morvant around 1:30 am stopped and searched the vehicle after seeing the driver acting in a suspicious manner. The lawmen found 470 grammes of marijuana, estimated to be worth at least TT$6,000 (US$940) in a plastic bag in the centre console between the driver and passenger seats. As a result Morton, 32 and 27-year-old Willet, along with Nicole Brunche, 37 and Marsha Bob-Semple, 25 who were in the car with them, were taken into police custody and subsequently charged. Morton was born in Nevis but married a Trinidadian woman and has citizenship in the twin-island republic. At the time that he and fellow Nevis-born Willet were out, they should have been at the Cascadia Hotel where their teams were staying as they participated in the West Indies Cricket Board’s Regional Four Day Tournament Round Five match between Trinidad and Tobago and the Leeward Islands. Following their arrests, it was announced that Morton and Willet would no longer participate in the tournament. Click here to receive free news bulletins via email from Caribbean360. (View sample)
