Chavez says there may be no more Castro appearances
CARACAS, Venezuela, January 12, 2009 – Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez has suggested that former Cuban leader, Fidel Castro, may never appear in public again.
“That Fidel in his uniform, who walked the streets and towns late at night, hugging the people, won't return. That will remain in memories,” he told Venezuelans in his Sunday television and radio programme.
Chavez, who has paid many visits to Cuba to see Castro since his emergency intestinal surgery about two and a half years ago, did not discuss the 82-year-old’s current medical condition or explain why he thought the revolutionary would not return to the public stage.
Still, Chavez insisted, “Fidel will live forever, beyond the physical life.”
Castro was last seen in public in July 2006. He has since ceded power to his younger brother, Raul.
There has been many rumors of the seriousness of his illness, with some claiming the former President could already be dead. (Caribworldnews)
