CASTRIES, St Lucia, November 6, 2009 – After a five year absence, German carrier Condor Airlines is serving St Lucia again and it has already announced plans to return even after the six month contract period is over.

Prime Minister Stephenson King says its return has come as a result of ongoing negotiations aimed at increasing airlift to the island.

“We know that what we offer to those who visit St Lucia is a product which is diverse, so we are certain that our product will present many opportunities to our friends in Germany,” he said.

Condor is only contracted to fly to St Lucia every Sunday, until April next year,  but the German- based airline says it is already planning to service the island throughout the summer of 2010.

North American representative, Petra Kelsey, delivered the news, saying that she expects the island’s tourism industry  to benefit immensely from the direct flight between the Frankfrut Airport and the Hewanorra International Airport.

“We are very delighted to be back in St Lucia and we would like to give our special thanks to the government of St Lucia, the Tourist Board and its German representatives; without their tireless efforts, I don't think the return of Condor to St Lucia would be possible. I am also happy to announce that we at Condor are already planning to return to St Lucia throughout the next summer season. I believe this commitment shows that Condor views St Lucia as a very important destination in the Caribbean,” she said.

The company indicated that St Lucia would not be a difficult sell for German travellers who are among the most travelled passengers yearly.

Negotiations between Condor and the government of St Lucia are ongoing in an effort to have island serviced by Condor all year round.
