ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, Wednesday May 5, 2010 – The beheading of two men and the alleged killer’s bold delivery of the evidence to police has left Grenadians in shock and stunned Prime Minister Tillman Thomas who has described the incident as “a very sad period” for the country.

What was even more chilling than the nature of the murders was that the man believed to be responsible for them, walked calmly into the station and told lawmen: “I have two heads for all you”, before putting a bucket with the body parts on a counter.

“This is a tragedy, not just for the people of St Andrew but for all of Grenada”.            --Prime Minister Tilman Thomas

The 32-year-old man, whose identity has not yet been released, was immediately taken into custody and police later found the bodies of the victims – Clyde Greenidge who was the owner of a night club and a farmer at the time of his death, and labourer Christopher Stafford – at Greenidge’s farm.

Prime Minister Thomas told the media that the murders, which occurred on Monday evening in Grenville, a village in the north-east parish of St Andrew, had left him stunned.

“It’s somewhat strange and unusual and a very gruesome act…It is something that has really traumatized the society because we have incidents of crime in Grenada but not this type of crime,” he said.

The killings bring to five the number of people murdered in Grenada so far this year.

Prime Minister Thomas has issued a statement expressing sympathy to the families of the two latest victims.

“This is a tragedy, not just for the people of St Andrew but for all of Grenada. Our prayers are with you at this time of your deep sorrow. We join in mourning your loss as a result of this indescribable act,” he said.

He said the act underscored the need for a structured approach to anger management and solving problems. He urged the public to allow the police to carry out their investigations into the incident before making judgment.

“This is a very sad period for Grenada. We ought to be our brother’s keeper. Our focus should be on the preservation of life and building relationships that will help to resolve disagreements,” the Grenadian leader said.

As A Grenadian and a former Minister of Government, I am shocked and depressed about this incident.

It tells me that my Country should implement the action plan that developed some time ago to deal with Crime Prevention. It would appear that the time has come for all the Leaders of this Country to sit down together and come up with an immediate action plan so that we will never see such barbaric incident occurring in our spice Island again.

Words cannot express what these families are going through. As a human being I am also hurting.

My prayer is that as a Nation we can all do something in our own way to show Love to one another.

We cannot preach hatred and at the same time think that our country will be safe.

We must show Love to one another.

As a television news anchor in Grenada, having to report such gruesomeness to my countrymen is not only difficult, but also worrisome.

But the reality of this world must be reported.

Audiences with whom I chat are outraged at what has happened; some are even traumatized.

They reiterate calls for the preservation of human life.

Hello Fellow Grenadians,

The Coubtry that for so long we have loved, cherished, bragged about, supported for so many years have let us all wondering what could have brought this sudden vengeance to our beautiful Grenada.

I am totally flabbergasted by the anger that has resen throughout the length and breath of this beloved Country that is ours.

May the good Lord help us and keep us in this most difficult of circumstances.

I am rather disturbed by this latest event happening in my beloved Grenada. I have always bragged to my colleagues at work about how peaceful and friendly the people are, and it is a country with very little crimes.
What went wrong for this young man and what is he going through in his life that leads him to do such gruesome act?
May god keep their families under his care and we all Grenadians will learn from this devastating act, let us love one another and help whenever we can.

Claudia
