Barbadian parliamentarian escapes death

image In a car accident that claimed the life of his driver, a parliamentarian escapes with his life.

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Wednesday July 28, 2010 – A government backbencher escaped death yesterday evening in a car accident that claimed the life of his longtime driver.

Sylvester Brown, 65, died on the spot. Hamilton Lashley, the 58-year-old representative for the St Michael South East constituency, was injured in the collision.

He was rushed to the hospital complaining on injuries to his head and right hand.

The vehicle Brown was driving collided with a SUV driving by a 29-year-old Mario Daniel-Hood around 4:25 pm. The young man sustained injuries to his hip and leg.

Yesterday’s fatality brings the number of people who have died on the country’s roads so far this year, to 11.
