Tornado kills one in Cuba

HAVANA, Cuba, Friday August 27, 2010 – A tornado yesterday hit a town in Cuba, killing one and injuring six.

The disaster struck El Aji, in the Cuban eastern province of Granma, in the afternoon.

Three of the injured sustained serious injuries and had to be taken to hospital. The others reportedly had minor scratches.

In addition to causing the death and injuries, the tornado completely destroyed 16 houses, ripped the roof off seven others and resulted in damage to another 32.

About 70 people had to be evacuated.
