Date set for late PM's funeral

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Wednesday October 27, 2010 – Barbadians have been told that late Prime Minister David Thompson will be accorded a farewell befitting his prominence and exemplary contribution to the country, when a State Funeral is held next Wednesday, November 3, at the historic Kensington Oval.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Maxine McClean who was charged with the responsibility of overseeing and coordinating activities for the period of official mourning and the State Funeral, revealed the date after a meeting at Government Headquarters with representatives of various agencies.

Admission to the service will be by ticket only.

"The entire service…will be broadcast live on radio and television here and across the region,” McClean said, adding that it will be followed by the interment at the St John Parish Church, in the constituency which Thompson represented for 23 years.

Ahead of the funeral, Barbadians will have their chance to pay respects to the late leader, as his body will lie in state and condolence books will be open at various locations, starting tomorrow.

I am living in the US, but I will not be able to attend the funeral of Prime Minister David Thompson. Do you have a web site that I can reference for a live broadcast.
