Tropical Storm Ophelia quickly forms over the Atlantic

image Ophelia is expected to strengthen gradually over the next day or two as it approaches the Leeward Islands.

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Wednesday September 21, 2011 -  according to the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Centre (NHC).

The 5 a.m. EDT NHC report indicated that Tropical Storm Opehlia was located near 12.7 north 41.8 west or about 1370 miles east of the Leeward Islands.

Maximum sustained winds are near 45 miles per hour with higher gusts the hurricane centre reported.

The NHC report also indicated that tropical storm force winds extend 175 miles mainly to the north of the system.
