Cuba has low rate of TB
HAVANA, Cuba, Wednesday March 21, 2012 – Cuba is listed among countries with the lowest rates of tuberculosis in the world, with seven cases per every 100, 000.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), Cuba is one of the countries with real possibilities of eliminating the contagious disease due to the systematic control and treatment programmes implemented since 1959.
Who also noted that tuberculosis continued to be a serious health problem, around the world with over eight million cases being reported annually.
However, the disease can be prevented and even cured if it is diagnosed and treated early. But, Dr. Maria Josefa Llanes Cordero, warned that if the treatment was interrupted the disease could become chronic and medicines lose their effectiveness.
