Last over for former West Indies cricketer
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Monday March 19, 2012 – Former West Indies cricketer, Runako Morton, was laid to rest at the St. George Anglican Church cemetery in his hometown over the weekend.
Hundreds of mourners arrived at the Elquemedo Willett Park to pay their last respects to the cricketer, including primary and secondary school mates, members of the Nevis Cricket Association and Pennyless All-Star Cricket Club.
During the moving service, tributes were given by Leeward Island Cricket Association cricketer, Chris Gayle, Mr. Morton’s sister, Midge Morton and Chief Justice Hugh Rawlins among others.
The former cricketer was remembered as a unique and special individual who loved his family and friends with a passion.
Canon Alson Percival delivered the sermon before Mr. Morton’s body was taken to the St. George Anglican Church where he was laid to rest in the cemetery.
