PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, Friday April 22, 2011 – CLICO policyholders in Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago are working together, even as they wage separate fights to get back money owed to them by the financially-troubled insurance company.

Chairman of the recently-formed Barbados Investors and Policyholders Alliance (BIPA), June Fowler, recently held talks with her counterpart in Trinidad and Tobago, Peter Permell, and met with members of the CLICO Policyholders Group to discuss developments in the debacle.

The two groups have expressed solidarity and made a commitment to continue sharing information.

“My brothers and sisters in T&T, we in this thing together,” Fowler told the policyholders.

“If nothing else unites us, this debacle will.”

Permell advised the policyholders that he was in the fight for the long haul, until everybody got their money back with a proper settlement, the same goal for which BIPA was organised.

Ten policyholders in Trinidad and Tobago have gone to court to get CLICO wound up and Permell said the Executive Flexible Premium Annuity Policyholders Group – the incorporated arm of the CLICO Policyholders Group – would be filing action to join as a party in that litigation.

He said the group has already engaged a team of lawyers to assist in the process.
