ROSEAU, Dominica, Monday October 3, 2011 – The Dominica government is making a bid to be placed back on the itinerary of Carnival Cruise Lines, almost a year after it was removed.

Tourism Minister Ian Douglas said this is the main agenda item of his visit to this week’s Florida Caribbean Cruise Association annual meeting in Puerto Rico.

The Carnival Victory made its final call to Dominica late last year citing fuel costs and passenger dissatisfaction regarding excessive port calls on its seven day itinerary.

Minister Douglas was upbeat about the country’s chances stating, “We’ll be trying to entice Carnival corporation to put Dominica back on its itinerary.”

He said he along with Director of Tourism, Colin Piper, also intend to hold talks with other cruise lines such as Disney with the aim of having them call at Roseau.

The minister’s comments coincide with the start of the 2011/2012 cruise season, which he was also upbeat about. Click here to receive free news bulletins via email from Caribbean360. (View sample)
