St Kitts PM gets top Taiwanese honour

The honour came the same time that the Taiwanese President received an honour from the twin-island federation.

TAIPEI, Taiwan, Friday March 11, 2011 – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas has been conferred “The Order of Propitious Clouds with Special Grand Cordon” by the President of Taiwan, Ma Ying-jeou.

It came yesterday as the Taiwanese President received St. Kitts and Nevis highest civilian honour.

In the citation for “The Order of Propitious Clouds with Special Grand Cordon”, Prime Minister Douglas was described as “an outstanding statesman of profound erudition and vision, who has devoted himself to promoting cordial relations and close cooperation between St. Christopher and Nevis and the Republic of China on Taiwan and for his outstanding achievements”.

President Ma said Prime Minister Douglas’ remarkable contributions have earned him the deep appreciation of the Government and People of the Republic of China on Taiwan and in recognition of the outstanding achievements he was awarded the “The Order of Propitious Clouds with Special Grand Cordon.”

The Ceremony was witnessed by members of the Prime Minister’s delegation as well as Taiwan’s Resident Ambassador in St. Kitts and Nevis, Miguel Li-jey Tsao, and top Taiwan officials.

Earlier, “The Order of St. Christopher and Nevis” was bestowed by Dr Douglas on President Ma for “being a great statesman of brilliant knowledge and experience and of profound vision and competence”.
