Former lawman now on bail and surrenders passport

Retired police inspector accused of perverting drug trial.

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Friday March 23, 2012 – A retired police inspector has been accused of perverting the course of justice during the preliminary enquiry of a drug case.

Martin Jones, of Wilcox, Christ Church, appeared in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday but was not required to plead too committing a series of acts which had the tendency to pervert the course of justice between October 24, 2009 and March 10, 2010, in that he facilitated the transfer of a criminal case against Frederick Ryan Grant from the District “B” Magistrates’ Court to the District “A” Magistrates’ Court.

It is alleged that those actions resulted in no criminal conviction being brought from trafficking being recorded against Grant.

However, the former lawman is also accused of perverting the course of justice between October 24, 2009 and March 10, 2010, in that he facilitated the process by which the order of the court for forthwith cost for trafficking was not complied with by Grant.

Jones is now on $2, 500 bail with a surety for each charge, and was required to surrender his travel documents as a condition of his bail.
