Two weather systems in the Atlantic take aim at the Caribbean

Low pressure system to the east of the Lesser Antilles expected to pass north or Guadeloupe based on current forecast models.

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Monday August 20, 2012 -  The African coast continues to produce a slew of potential storms for August.

The low pressure system is located near 15.6N 46.7 W or about 800 miles east of the Lesser Antilles according to the 8pm EST advisory from the National Hurricane Center (NHC).

The hurricane center reports that tropical depression seven "is moving to the west-northwest at 22 miles per hour and tropical storm watches could soon be required for the Leeward Islands."

"Maximum sustained winds are near 35 miles per hour with higher gusts" according to the hurricane center.

The estimated minimum central pressure for the system has dropped to 1009 mb.

According to Philip J. Klotzbach and William M. Gray of the Department of Atmospheric Science, Colorado State University, the 2012 Atlantic Hurricane season is expected to see about 13 named storms, including 5 hurricanes, with two of them being major.
