Handcuffed passenger escorted off JetBlue in Bermuda

A JetBlue spokesperson said the female passenger caused a disturbance en route forcing the aircraft to return to Bermuda.

HAMILTON, Bermuda, Monday October 10, 2011 - JetBlue has confirmed that a New York bound flight from Bermuda was forced to turn around Sunday afternoon due to disturbance by a female passenger.

Airline spokesman Sebastian White said flight 1732, which was carrying 89 passengers, was met by local authorities on its return.

“A customer was taken into police custody. The flight continued to New York with everyone else after about an hour on the ground,” White stated.

The Royal Gazette newspaper reports that the woman was taken away in handcuffs after the jet returned around an hour into its flight.

“Obviously I panicked; they said on the intercom that the Air Traffic Controllers had ordered the plane to turn around. Luckily JetBlue handled it all professionally,” said Bermudian journalist Clare O’Connor who lives in New York.

“It was bizarre to see the woman frog marched off the plane in handcuffs, but we took off straight away…”
