Haitian president attacked a second time
Quick action by Haiti police averts injury to president.
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti, Monday February 20, 2012 – Haitian president Michel Martelly escaped injury after being attacked in a Carnival procession recently.
According to a statement issued on the incident, troublemakers were responsible for the attack which occurred near Champs de Mars plaza.
Eye witness reports indicate that Martelly was sheltered from the attack which involved rock throwing and placed in a car and taken to National Palace.
He later went for a walk under heavy police guard. However, this attack is the second for Mr. Martelly since his inauguration last May.
Anti-Martelly protesters are demanding that he show his travel documents to prove he is eligible to hold office amidst suspicion that he has dual citizenship, a fact that can bar him from holding office. Click here to receive free news bulletins via email from Caribbean360. (View sample)
