25 tourists injured in bus wreck

Visitors rushed to hospital after tour bus overturns in Jamaica.

KINGSTON, Jamaica, Friday June 01, 2012 – More than two dozen vacationers narrowly escaped serious injuries earlier this week when the tour bus in which they were travelling overturned in the northern parish of Trelawny.

According to a police report, the bus overturned near the Rock section of the North Coast Highway after it was involved in a collision with a car which had made a botched attempt to re-enter the line of traffic after overtaking.

The tourists, who were en route to Ocho Rios in St Ann from the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, were rushed to the Falmouth Public Hospital for treatment.

Twenty-two of the visitors were treated and discharged, while three more seriously injured persons were treated and admitted for further observation.
Jamaica’s Tourism Minister Wykeham McNeill extended his sympathy to the injured, but expressed relief that no lives were lost.

The authorities have not released the identity of any of the passengers or their countries of origin.
