REDjet launches new routes

Antigua & Barbuda will become the first OECS country to be serviced by the airline.

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Wednesday September 21, 2011 – Low-cost carrier REDjet plans to introduce three new routes in late November, including to Antigua & Barbuda, which will be the first OECS country to be added to its itinerary.

The direct flights between Barbados and Jamaica, Trinidad and Jamaica, and Guyana to Antigua will begin operating between November 21 and 22, bringing to six the number of routes serviced by the airline.

The Barbados-based carrier already operates flights between Barbados, Trinidad and Guyana, one of which was added earlier this month.

Speaking after tickets went on sale in Antigua on Monday, REDjet’s Communications Executive Nyssa Pierre said the timing was right.

 “We’ve been looking at Antigua for some time and we had to launch when the time was right. We felt now is the perfect time,” she said.

“In Antigua itself, there is certainly a need for Redjet and we’re finally happy to be there and we look to forward to serving Antigua with many more routes to come.”

Redjet has received permission to fly into St Lucia and St Kitts and Nevis.

However, St. Lucia’s Minister of Tourism Allen Chastanet, who last month announced that the airline will begin servicing the St. Lucia-Barbados route in November, is now questioning an apparent delay. Click here to receive free news bulletins via email from Caribbean360. (View sample)
