WASHINGTON, United States, Wednesday January 18, 2012 - Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, on Tuesday announced the appointment of Frédéric Bolduc of Canada as OAS Special Representative in Haiti.

“The OAS is willing to continue our cooperation and collaboration with Haiti following the guidelines established by its elected authorities, and I am convinced that Mr. Bolduc will further strengthen these important ties with one of our founding Member Countries,” said Secretary General Insulza.

Bolduc began his career in 1998 at “Médecins sans frontiers” followed by the United Nations Development Programme. He briefly worked in the private sector advising Latin American companies before pursuing a Canadian diplomatic career.

In 2003, he became Head of Mission of the Québec Government in Miami with the mandate to deepen economic, political and cultural relations with the United States as well as with the Caribbean, specifically with Haiti.

In 2007, he was appointed Head of Multilateral Affairs of the Québec Government in Washington, tasked with representing Québec’s interests in the OAS within the Canadian delegation. In that role, he worked on Inter-American initiatives to promote democracy, security, justice and development.

He was appointed Director of the Québec Government Office in Washington in 2011 to consolidate bilateral relations with the U.S. Congress, the Administration, and think tanks.

Bolduc graduated with a Master’s in International Affairs from Columbia University, specializing in the economic and political development of Latin America and the Caribbean. Click here to receive free news bulletins via email from Caribbean360. (View sample)
