Antigua Carnival, artistes agree on payment plan

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, Monday April 30, 2012 – A payment plan is now in place outlining when and how money will be paid following the Antigua Carnival over the summer months.

With artistes threatening to boycott registration for the events of the 2012 festival unless there was an agreement, the Carnival Development Committee (CDC) has met the demands of the Working committee of Carnival Artistes Association.

According to reports the CDC has announced the institution of a three-month payment plan, along with new cost cutting measures.

CDC chairman Kyode O’Marde said the payment plan was currently being worked on to ensure that all stakeholders involved in the annual festival will be paid no later than three months after its conclusion.

However, reports indicate that while stakeholders will be paid in three months, there will be a number of cuts made to the annual festival. Those cuts include costs for stage construction, security, marketing and a number of shows in the Carnival line-up. Click here to receive free news bulletins via email from Caribbean360. (View sample)
