KINGSTON, Jamaica, Tuesday August 16, 2016 – Jamaica is making a mark at the Rio Olympics, leading the English-speaking Caribbean’s performance and medal count. But the island is dominating elsewhere as well.
Tourism rating company, Trip Advisor has ranked Jamaica as the number one Caribbean tourist destination.
And Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett credits the ranking to improvements to the island’s tourism product and “the high class, white glove service that employees in the industry give to every visitor”.
“It’s a good feeling that we are being recognised for the value of the services that we offer because that’s what really defines the destination. It is the quality experience that the visitor has when he/she comes here,” he said.
“This is a signal honour not just for tourism, but for the entire country because…everyone has done his and her duty to make the destination enjoys this position.”
The Tourism Minister said it would take continued hard work from all stakeholders to ensure that the destination maintains the top ranking in the region.
“We have to maintain that position by making sure that our key areas of involvement, of safety and security in particular, our culture and music, hotel rooms…that all the key parts are operating well,” Bartlett noted.
