LONDON, England, October 23, 2006 – Internationally-acclaimed Barbadian singer/songwriter/producer and film actor, Magnet Man, recently returned to Barbados from Germany in a different role – this time as an official representative to UNICEF Germany.
Magnet recently signed a three-year contract with UNICEF in Bremen, Germany that involves several charity songs and performances at official UNICEF concerts during 2007 to 2009. The first two campaigns that Magnet will be spearheading will be the ‘Schools For Africa’ campaign and the ‘Kids & AIDS.
The appointment by UNICEF was in recognition of Magnet’s work for the global Make Poverty History Campaign/M8ke A Difference Foundation since 2005. He performed at the Live8/Make Poverty History Rally in Edinburgh, Scotland at the time of the 2005 G8 summit, where the official headcount was 225,000. Footage of that historic event is included in the official UNICEF ‘M8ke A Difference’ /Magnet Man music Video which is due for release soon. It had its first airing on John King’s Chat Room TV Show on CBC TV in Barbados.
A very important UNICEF Concert is planned to coincide with the 2007 G8 summit of the Leaders of the world’s eight richest nations in Berlin in early June and will be named after Magnet’s first charity song – the ‘M8ke A Difference Concert.’ Its aim is to keep the G8 leaders focused on world poverty and particularly, child poverty, as well as to raise awareness and funds from the public.
Meanwhile, Magnet is now promoting three very different songs, including his international single ‘Wanna Flex,’ a club/party track is debuting on the Caribbean Top 40 Chart; the movie the title sound track from the film ‘From Barbados With Love,” which was recently launched in London in the presence of the Barbados Prime Minister, and again in Barbados for the Caribbean press and media on October 7th; and thirdly for, the song ‘M8ke A Difference’ for UNICEF’s Campaigns.
Magnet Man’s new album, which he is also currently working on, is slated to be launched in conjunction with a major music company in the Netherlands and the world premiere of ‘From Barbados With Love,’ the movie in which he has his debut as a film actor, takes place in January.
