Tropical Storm Chantal forms in the Atlantic

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Monday July 8, 2013 – Tropical Storm Chantal races westward, expected to affect the Lesser Antilles late Monday or early Tuesday morning.

“Tropical Storm Chantal is located near 10.1N 48.5W or 775 miles east southeast of Barbados according to the 11 pm AST advisory from the National Hurricane Center (NHC). 

The hurricane center reports that Chantal”is moving west northwest near 26 miles per hour and and this general motion is expected to continue through Monday

The NHC report also indicated “tropical storm warnings are in effect for Barbados, Dominica and St Lucia and a tropical storm watch is in effect for St Vincent.”

“Maximum sustained winds are 40 miles per hour with higher gusts and Chanal is expected to move across the Lesser Antilles late Monday night or early Tuesday” said the report.

The estimated minimum central pressure for the system has dropped to 1007 mb.

According to Philip J. Klotzbach and William M.
