Canadian women nabbed trying to smuggle cannabis into Barbados

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Thursday March 31, 2016 – Four Canadian women, including a teenager, are facing several drug charges after being caught trying to bring almost 150 pounds of cannabis into Barbados.

Emma Jacqueline Young, 17; Paige Amber Clark, 20; Natalie Linton, 24; and Charlette Blackman, 35, were held after arriving at the Grantley Adams International Airport on the same flight from Canada on Tuesday.

When Customs officers searched their luggage, varying amounts of cannabis were found in boxes.

The youngest of the accused had the largest amount of the illegal drugs. According to police, Young had 81 packages weighing 44 pounds.

Linton had 65 packages containing 42 pounds of cannabis; Blackman had 65 packages containing 34 pounds; and Clark had 26 pounds of the drug in 40 packages.

The quartet is facing charges of possession, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation.
