Castro addresses the nation

HAVANA, Cuba, October 30, 2006 – Cuban President Fidel Castro yesterday dismissed claims that he is dead.

Castro, looking exhausted in a red, white and blue jogging suit, made his first public appearance on state television yesterday.

“They’ve declared me moribund prematurely,” stated the Cuban leader, while holding a copy of the Granma paper.

“But it pleases me to send my compatriots and friends this small video.”

He also told Cubans his recovery from intestinal surgery, is “… coming along just as planned,” adding, “I feel whole.”

Raul Castro, Fidel’s younger brother, is currently serving as the country’s head of state. (Hardbeatnews.com)
