WASHINGTON D.C., United States, Wednesday October 30, 2013 – It seems that Chris Brown just can’t get it together when it comes to staying out of trouble. The 24-year-old singer was arrested (again) on Sunday morning and charged (again) with a felony assault in Washington, DC, not far from the White House.
A CNN report, quoting the Washington Metropolitan Police Department, said that the R&B star and his bodyguard, who was also arrested, were involved in an altercation with another man outside the W Hotel.
Law enforcement sources told celebrity website TMZ that the incident took place at around 4:30 a.m. and that Brown allegedly punched the other man in the face.
The sources reportedly added that Brown did not appear to be under the influence of any substances at the time of the altercation, and that he was taken into custody.
According to the TMZ report, sources said a woman approached Brown to have her picture taken with him, but then two other men stopped by to try to get into the photograph.
“I’m not into this gay s**t, I’m into boxing,” Brown allegedly said before taking a swing at one of the men.
The man who was allegedly attacked received treatment for his injuries at a local hospital and was subsequently discharged. Police reportedly said that the felony charge was based in part on the extent of the injuries.
This latest arrest adds to the legal troubles ensnarling the Grammy award-winner, who is currently on probation in California for his 2009 conviction for felony domestic violence against his former girlfriend, Barbadian megastar Rihanna.
Prosecutors have filed probation violation charges against Brown twice in the last year. In August, he was sentenced to an additional 1,000 hours of community labour after the district attorney’s office said he didn’t complete the 1,400 hours originally assigned to him as part of his 2009 sentence.
He was also jailed briefly in August for a hit-and-run charge that was dropped soon afterwards. He suffered a seizure around that time, which his doctor attributed to intense fatigue and stress.
The singer has been involved in a number of incidents since the 2009 arrest. Last year he was sued for a nightclub brawl in New York that erupted between his entourage and that of Canadian rapper Drake, who had also dated Rihanna.
Brown also had a much publicised altercation with singer Frank Ocean over a parking space at a recording studio in Los Angeles. Ocean claimed to have suffered an injured finger, but no charges were filed. A second man, Sha’keir Duarte, sued Brown, claiming a concussion.
In addition to Brown’s latest legal predicament, he is due back in court on November 20 in Los Angeles to update a judge on his probation. Click here to receive free news bulletins via email from Caribbean360. (View sample)
